What happens when nobody looks after a website

A live site keeps changing even if no one touches it: browsers, servers, plugins and search engines keep moving around it.

  • The SSL certificate expires and browsers show your visitors a security warning.

  • The domain is registered to someone who left the company, or nobody remembers when it renews.

  • An outdated plugin or package opens the door to attacks, or stops working after a server upgrade.

  • The contact form quietly stops sending emails and nobody notices for weeks.

  • A small change breaks the mobile layout because there’s nowhere to test it first.

  • There’s no recent backup, and nobody knows how to restore the site if something goes wrong.

What maintenance covers

Scope depends on your platform and how you use the site. This is what we check on almost every one.

  • Domain, DNS and hosting

    We manage your domain and DNS, usually on Cloudflare. If you need it, we host the site too: shared hosting, Vercel or Firebase depending on how it’s built.

  • Updates, tested first

    Core, theme, plugins or packages kept current, tested on a copy of the site first when the change calls for it.

  • Backups you can restore

    Copies of the site and its database, plus checks that they actually work for rolling back if something breaks.

  • Security and certificates

    A valid SSL certificate, a review of users and logins that shouldn’t exist anymore, and baseline attack protection through Cloudflare.

  • Speed and errors

    Regular checks of mobile speed and of errors in Search Console and server logs, with specific proposals to fix them.

  • Fixes and small changes

    Forms that stopped sending, broken links, copy or images to swap and design tweaks that don’t justify a new project.

How we take over your site

    Access and ownership

    We gather logins for the domain registrar, DNS, hosting and admin panel, and confirm whose name each account is in.

    Initial review

    We check versions, backups, the SSL certificate, forms, mobile speed and the errors showing in Search Console.

    Priority list

    You get a ranked list: first whatever puts the site or your leads at risk, then whatever makes it better.

    Backup before anything else

    We take a full backup before the first change, so we can roll back if something doesn’t go as planned.

    Agreed upkeep

    We agree on what gets checked regularly, how you send us requests and how we report back on what we did.

How we prioritize requests

This page doesn’t promise response times; those depend on the scope we agree on for your site. What we always apply is an order of priority. First, anything that takes the site offline or stops leads or sales from coming in: an expired domain, a lapsed certificate, a broken form or checkout. Next, anything that exposes security, like a plugin with a known vulnerability or a login nobody should still have. Then, anything that hurts speed or how Google crawls the site. Last, content and design changes. If a request turns out to belong in a different bucket along the way, we’ll let you know.

Support and maintenance FAQ

Do you take on sites built by another agency?

Yes. We start by gathering access and reviewing the site before changing anything. If we find something that isn’t worth keeping, like an abandoned theme or unsupported plugins, we’ll lay out your options: fix it, replace it or, only when it’s truly needed, redesign.

What do you check first?

Anything that could leave you without a site or without leads: whose name the domain and hosting are in, when they expire, whether the certificate is valid, whether there are recent backups and whether forms are being delivered. After that, outdated versions, speed and Search Console errors.

How do you handle an urgent issue?

You report it through the channel we agree on, with the page where it happens and a screenshot if you can. We contain it first, for example by restoring a backup or disabling whatever is failing, and then track down the cause so it doesn’t happen again. Response times depend on the scope we agree on; we don’t promise them on this page.

Which platforms do you maintain?

The same ones we build on: WordPress and WooCommerce, Next.js and React sites, and custom sites in HTML, Bootstrap or PHP. If your site runs on something we don’t know well, we’ll tell you before taking it on.

Does maintenance include the domain and hosting?

We always manage the domain and DNS for the sites we build, usually on Cloudflare. We host most of our clients’ sites as well (shared hosting, Vercel or Firebase depending on the platform), but we can also work with the hosting you already have.

Do I need maintenance if my site barely changes?

Yes, just less of it. Even if the content stays the same, the domain and certificate expire, plugins and packages get security patches and the server gets upgraded. A site that rarely changes may need fewer hours, but not zero.
