Dedicated server hosting: a whole machine for you, when you truly need it

With a dedicated server, all the hardware is yours: CPU, memory, drives and network. It offers the most isolation and control, and it also demands the most administration. Before recommending one, we check whether your workload justifies it or whether a well-tuned VPS gets you the same result for less.

What usually sparks the dedicated-server conversation

Some of these justify one; others can be solved with less. That’s why we go through them one at a time:

  • Your app constantly maxes out the largest VPS your host offers.

  • A contract, an audit or an industry regulation requires your data to sit on non-shared hardware.

  • Your software is licensed per physical server or needs specific hardware, such as NVMe drives in RAID or a GPU.

  • Performance swings for no obvious reason because other virtual machines share the same host.

  • You run large databases that need plenty of memory and fast disks around the clock.

Do you need a dedicated server?

Most websites don’t. These are the questions we ask before recommending one.

It makes sense if…

  • Your load is high and steady, not just a few hours of peaks that caching or a bigger VPS could absorb.
  • A contract, an audit or a rule in your industry specifically calls for dedicated hardware.
  • You have, or will hire, someone to manage the server and respond when it fails.
  • You need custom hardware: specific drives, RAID levels, networking or add-in cards.

Probably not if…

  • Your site is a company website, a blog or a mid-sized store: a VPS or good shared hosting is plenty.
  • What you really want is speed for visitors in several regions: a network like Cloudflare’s helps more than a bigger server.
  • Nobody on your team can manage it, and there’s no budget to pay someone who can.
When a VPS is enough

What a dedicated server won’t fix on its own

A dedicated server is a single machine. If a drive, the power supply or the network card fails, your site is down until the host swaps the part, unless you’ve planned for redundancy: RAID, off-server backups and, for critical services, a second server ready to take the traffic. It doesn’t scale with a click either; growing usually means renting another machine and migrating. So before talking hardware, answer three questions: how long can your service be down, how much data can you afford to lose and who picks up the phone if it fails at 2 a.m. on a Saturday.

What we review before you rent a dedicated server

A dedicated server is a long commitment; these calls get made before you sign.

  • Sizing based on data

We measure your current CPU, memory, disk and network usage so you don’t pay for hardware you won’t use.

  • Drives and redundancy

We settle the drive type, the RAID level and exactly what happens when one drive fails.

  • Who manages what

We spell out what the host covers (hardware, network and power) and what stays with your team: OS, security and applications.

  • A recovery plan

Off-server backups and a tested procedure to restore everything if the machine dies completely.

  • Perimeter protection

A firewall, restricted access and, where it fits, Cloudflare in front to filter traffic before it reaches the server.

  • The host’s support terms

What the host’s support covers, which channels it uses and how fast it responds, reviewed before you sign.

Working with Crece Virtual transformed how we acquire clients. From the outset, they understood our business and guided us through everything: digital strategy, website architecture, and domain selection. The WordPress site, with a custom theme and widgets created in Elementor, turned out exactly as we needed: fast, clear, and designed to make requesting quotes effortless. Thanks to technical SEO, link building, and Google Ads campaigns in Medellín, our quote requests increased several times over, stabilizing at nearly 500% higher than at the beginning. The automation that sends leads from WhatsApp to Google Sheets, complete with all the data and UTM parameters, allows us to better measure sales and repeat purchases. Furthermore, their hosting, domain, and Google Workspace services have been reliable, and whenever we need support, they're always there with quick and clear answers.

We have been working with Crece Virtual for several months now, and it has been a great experience. They built our website in Next.js, and it turned out super fast and professional. The best part is that they didn't leave us on our own after delivery: every month they make updates and improvements, and when we need something urgently, they always respond very quickly. Their support has been impeccable. In addition to the website, they manage our Google Ads campaigns and SEO. Honestly, everything has worked very well. The campaigns bring in good leads and have us well positioned on Google and Bing. They are very professional but also very approachable, always explaining everything clearly. I recommend them without hesitation.

Dedicated hosting FAQ

When do I need a dedicated server?

When the load is heavy and sustained, when a requirement calls for exclusive hardware, or when your software is licensed per machine. If the goal is simply a faster site, measure first: most slowdowns come from the code, the images or missing caching, and a bigger server won’t fix them.

Who manages a dedicated server?

It depends on the plan. On an unmanaged server, the host handles hardware, power and network; the operating system, updates, security and backups are yours. On a managed plan, the host takes on part of that work. Either way, get who-does-what in writing before there’s a problem.

What support comes with a dedicated server?

Each host defines it per plan, and it’s one of the first things we check: whether it covers just the hardware or the OS as well, which channels it uses and how quickly it responds. If those answers aren’t clear and in writing, we don’t recommend signing.

Dedicated server or cloud?

The cloud lets you scale up or down in minutes and pay for what you use; a dedicated server usually delivers more predictable performance for the money when the load is steady. Some companies mix both: a dedicated machine for the database and virtual servers for everything else.

Can I move from a VPS to a dedicated server without losing data?

Yes, with a planned migration: an initial copy, a final sync while the site sits in maintenance mode for a short window, testing, and then the DNS switch. How long that window lasts depends on how much data you have, and we agree on it with you beforehand.

A dedicated server, or something simpler?

Tell us what app you run, how much it uses today and what your industry requires. With your real usage in front of us, we’ll tell you whether you need dedicated hardware or a VPS will do.
