What changes with a VPS
A VPS is a virtual machine running on a physical server: it shares the hardware with other VMs, but it has its own operating system and a set allocation of memory, CPU and storage. That’s why noisy neighbors stop hurting you as much, and why you can install whatever you need: a specific PHP or Node.js version, containers, your own database or background workers. Above all, responsibility shifts: on an unmanaged plan, every update, firewall rule and backup is on you or whoever you hire. Most of our projects don’t need one: WordPress and PHP sites run on shared hosting, Next.js sites on Vercel and apps on Firebase. A VPS comes in when an app needs software or capacity those options can’t provide.
