Django development for applications where data comes first

Django ships with what many internal applications need: an admin interface generated from your data models, authentication, migrations and protection against the most common web attacks. We help you decide whether it fits your project and the team that will maintain it.

Projects that tend to call for Django

They have one thing in common: lots of structured information and people who edit it every day.

  • Records with many fields and relationships (people, applications, documents, payments) that live in spreadsheets today.

  • An operations team that needs to search, filter and fix data without filing a ticket with a developer.

  • Group-based permissions: each location, department or role sees and edits only its own records.

  • Workflows that need to analyze the data with Python libraries, not just store it.

  • A legacy system that has to be replaced without losing years of history.

What we can offer you today

We haven’t published a Django case, and we won’t present it as proven experience. What we do bring is hands-on practice running production applications with multiple clients’ data, strict permissions and daily backups, built today in Node.js. If your project is the kind Django handles best (relational data, an internal admin and a team that works in Python), we’ll say so and show you how we’d structure it. If another stack would serve you just as well with less upkeep, we’ll say that too.

An example of a Django application

Illustrative example, not a client: a scholarship foundation receives hundreds of applications with supporting documents, assigns them to reviewers and logs payments each semester. In Django, the data models define applications, reviews and disbursements; the admin interface is ready for each coordinator to review only their region; and a scheduled Python job builds the monthly summary for the board. A public-facing portal for applicants gets added only if it’s actually needed.

Is Django right for your project?

We recommend it when its strengths matter. These are the signals.

Django fits if…

  • Your data has lots of relationships and rules, and the database is the heart of the system.
  • Your staff needs a complete admin interface from the very first version.
  • The team that will maintain it works in Python or already does data analysis in Python.
  • You want security defaults without hand-tuning them: CSRF, SQL injection, XSS and clickjacking protection.

Look elsewhere if…

  • You only need a lightweight API for other systems, with no admin or user accounts: FastAPI is more direct.
  • It’s a content or marketing site: WordPress or Next.js will serve you better.
  • Your engineering team works in PHP: Laravel offers the equivalent in their language.

Django vs. FastAPI vs. Laravel

The three questions we hear most about Django, in one table.

  • Language
    Python.
    Out of the box
ORM, migrations, authentication, forms and an admin interface.
    Admin interface
Included, generated from your data models.
    Best for
Internal apps and systems where the data is the core.
    Version support
LTS releases with about three years of fixes; 5.2 is supported until April 2028.
  • FastAPI

    Language
    Python.
    Out of the box
Routing, data validation and automatic API docs.
    Admin interface
    Not included; built separately.
    Best for
Fast APIs, calculation services and AI models exposed to other systems.
    Version support
A smaller project whose dependencies move faster.
  • Laravel

    Language
    PHP.
    Out of the box
ORM, migrations, authentication, queues and email.
    Admin interface
Through third-party packages like Filament or Nova.
    Best for
Web apps with workflows, users and billing, on PHP teams.
    Version support
One major release a year, with two years of security fixes.

Support windows per the official Django and Laravel documentation as of October 2026.

How we’d structure a Django application

Starting from the data, which is where Django shines.

  • Models and migrations first

We design and review the data structure with you before any screen exists. Every change ships as a versioned migration.

  • An admin tailored to your team

List views, filters, search and bulk actions set up for your staff, with group-based permissions.

  • An API when other systems need one

Authenticated endpoints for an app, a dashboard or a partner, built on the same models and rules.

  • Background jobs

Imports, reports and emails that run outside the user’s request, with retries.

  • Security and testing

Django’s protections switched on, per-environment settings and automated tests for the critical workflows.

How we’d run a Django project

  1. 1

    Data map

Which entities exist, how they relate, who creates them and who can view or change them.

  2. 2

    The admin as version one

Your team starts working in the admin interface while we decide which external screens are really needed.

  3. 3

    Migrating what you have

We import your spreadsheets or legacy system with validation and report every record that doesn’t add up.

  4. 4

    External screens and API

Only the ones real usage justifies, built on the same models and permissions.

We've worked with Crece Virtual on several web design projects for our Barranquilla operation. Their team demonstrated a solid command of both WordPress and React, adapting to the specific needs of each project based on our technical and functional requirements. What we value most is the quality of the codebase they deliver. Each project has a clean and well-organized structure, which has greatly facilitated updates and the addition of new features when needed. The technical documentation they provide is clear and useful for our internal team. Communication throughout the entire process was smooth and professional.

Working with Crece Virtual transformed how we acquire clients. From the outset, they understood our business and guided us through everything: digital strategy, website architecture, and domain selection. The WordPress site, with a custom theme and widgets created in Elementor, turned out exactly as we needed: fast, clear, and designed to make requesting quotes effortless. Thanks to technical SEO, link building, and Google Ads campaigns in Medellín, our quote requests increased several times over, stabilizing at nearly 500% higher than at the beginning. The automation that sends leads from WhatsApp to Google Sheets, complete with all the data and UTM parameters, allows us to better measure sales and repeat purchases. Furthermore, their hosting, domain, and Google Workspace services have been reliable, and whenever we need support, they're always there with quick and clear answers.

We have been working with Crece Virtual for several months now, and it has been a great experience. They built our website in Next.js, and it turned out super fast and professional. The best part is that they didn't leave us on our own after delivery: every month they make updates and improvements, and when we need something urgently, they always respond very quickly. Their support has been impeccable. In addition to the website, they manage our Google Ads campaigns and SEO. Honestly, everything has worked very well. The campaigns bring in good leads and have us well positioned on Google and Bing. They are very professional but also very approachable, always explaining everything clearly. I recommend them without hesitation.

Django development FAQ

Django or FastAPI?

If your project needs user accounts, permissions and an interface for editing data, Django gives you all of that. If you only need a fast API, say to expose an AI model or a calculation to other systems, FastAPI is lighter. They also work together: Django for the admin and FastAPI for one specialized service.

Django or Laravel?

They solve similar problems with similar philosophies. The practical difference is the language: Django is Python, Laravel is PHP. Pick the one your maintenance team knows best. If you’ll also analyze data or use machine learning, Django has the edge of sharing a language with those libraries.

When shouldn’t you choose Django?

When the project is a content site, a standard store or a very small API, and when nobody on your side can maintain Python. Also when the interface is the main event and the data is simple: a frontend-centered stack does more there.

Which Django version should we use?

For a system that won’t change much after launch, an LTS release: currently 5.2, with security fixes until April 2028. For a project that keeps evolving, the latest stable release, with a plan to upgrade at each new version.

Can you take over an existing Django project?

We review it first: Django and Python versions, dependencies, pending migrations, tests and deployment. From there we tell you what risks we see and in what order to tackle them. Since we haven’t published a Django case yet, we’d rather let that review speak for us.

Does your application revolve around data?

Tell us what information you handle, who edits it and what decisions come out of it. We’ll tell you whether Django is the best option or whether another stack would do with less upkeep.

A sample of your spreadsheets or current system, minus sensitive data, helps us scope it better.
